"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents." - Emilie Buchwald

How it works:

Smart Start Reading is an early reading program that teaches parents and other caregivers how to teach their children to read.  The entire premise of this program is based on the fact that early intervention with phonetics instruction promotes success in reading ability, speed, comprehension and enjoyment.  And when a child can read well and with ease, he or she will reap immeasurable other benefits throughout life.

In this course, you will learn how and when to teach each step in the reading process through our simple and organized lessons.

  • First, you will watch a short presentation giving you the basic theoretical background for the step, with tips on when to teach and how to assess your child.
  • Then, you will watch a video demonstration of an expert working with a child using the same techniques you will use to teach your child.
  • Finally, it’s your turn to give your child the gift of reading.

One of the best things about our approach to teaching is, it can be done anywhere.  You don’t need a lot of materials, apps, books or DVDs.  It’ all right here.

Every aspect of this program is built around the concept of simplicity. From navigating the site - to learning the concepts - to using the materials with your child, it's all designed for you and your child to succeed.  The play-based methods are fun and provide positive family time as well as success with early reading skills.

Smart Start Reading  will help you take your child from the beginning stages of phonemic awareness to reading their first simple sentences and books.  Your child will gain a solid understanding of how to read, which will give him or her the confidence to continue independently and enthusiastically.  Smart Start Reading also allows each child to work at his or her own pace when he or she is developmentally ready.

Our Core Beliefs:

Learning to read opens doors for each child to become intrinsically motivated, independent, life-long learners.

Reading is a process that should be actively taught, fun, stress-free and engaging.

During the first 6 years of life, a child's mind absorbs his or her surroundings and whatever is presented to the child.

With a strong foundation in phonemic awareness, children will become far better readers and struggle less than those with poor phonemic awareness.

You can teach your child to read!
